the effect of combined exercise training on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with breast cancer

abstract
treatments for breast cancer such as chemotherapy or hormone therapy can increase osteoporosis. it seems that exercise training can improve bone mineral density. therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of combined exercise training on bone mineral density (bmd) in postmenopausal women with breast cancer. 29 postmenopausal women with breast cancer (58.27 ± 6.31 years) who received surgery, chemotherapy and radiation-therapy and were under hormone therapy at the moment were divided into two groups: experimental and control. experimental group performed 15 weeks of combined exercise training including walking (2 sessions per week) and resistance training (2 sessions per week on days different from walking days). control group did not participate in any exercise training. body weight, body mass index (bmi), vo2peak and lumbar spines and femur bone density were measured in two groups before and after 15 weeks. data were analyzed by ancova. results indicated that after 15 weeks, there was a significant difference in weight, bmi and vo2peak between experimental and control groups (p

The Effect of Body Pump Training on Bone Mineral Density and Balance in Postmenopausal Women
Abstract Introduction and aim: Studies has shown that increases bone mineral density (BMD) loss after menopause in women; On the other hand, physical activity is an important factor in preventing osteoporosis and fractures associated with it. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of 6 months low-load very high-repetition resistance training (body pump) on BMD and balance in postme...

overweight and elevated bmi can increase the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. on the other hand, it seems that exercise training affect weight and bmi. the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise training on some anthropometric variables in postmenopausal women with breast cancer. thus, 29 postmenopausal women with breast cancer who received surgery, chemother...
full textThe effects of transdermal estrogen delivery on bone mineral density in postmenopausal women: A meta-analysis
Background: Due to its minimal systematic adverse effects, transdermal estrogen is widely used for the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. The present meta-analysis aimed to clarify the effects of transdermal estrogen on bone mineral density (BMD) of postmenopausal women. Methods: Studies were identified by searching electronic databases including Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, Embase...
full textDoes adjuvant chemotherapy change bone mineral density and related serum biomarkers in women with breast cancer?
Background: The primary objective of this study was to assess BMD change in Iranian females with breast cancer. Methods: A sample of 73 female breast cancer patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy either alone or followed by radiotherapy between March 2013 and February 2016 were considered for this study. Bone mineral density (BMD) change was evaluated by measuring z-score of lumbar spin...

full textEffect of exercise on bone mineral density and lean mass in postmenopausal women.
PURPOSE To evaluate the effects of physical activity on bone mineral density, bone mineral content, and lean mass in postmenopausal, overweight/obese women. METHODS We conducted a 12-month randomized controlled aerobic exercise intervention versus control in 173 sedentary, overweight/obese, postmenopausal women, aged 50-75 yr. The exercise prescription consisted of >or=45 min of moderate-inte...
